Greenfield Fire Department is a Civil Service organization, meaning those persons applying for employment as firefighters must first take the statewide competitive examination for firefighters.
Applicants who score successfully on the written examination will be invited to apply for a physical examination test to be administered at a later date. Applicants must take and pass both parts of the examination to be eligible for consideration.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have reached 19th birthday on or before the registration deadline.
Must be a non-smoker at the time of and after appointment.

Employment Criteria:
Pass the state civil service examination for firefighter and be in the acceptable ranking on the civil service list for the City of Greenfield.
Successfully complete the following:
Background investigation process
Oral interview
Physical examination
Basic firefighter training both within the department and at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (11 Weeks)
One year probationary period after permanent appointment.
EMT-B Massachusetts state certification within one year of permanent appointment.
